Memorial Day Weekend

For Memorial Day we were lucky to have Joe off work for four days. Yeah!!! We love having him at home with us. We started off our weekend with a trip to Storyville on Friday. Joe had never been, and we figured it would make Annika happy. I think Annika had almost as much fun playing at Storyville as we did. From there we made our first trip to the Ikea in the area. Annika got a new night light, I will post a picture after we hang it up, and a new carpet for her playroom. I got a new wok. We all got lunch. On Saturday we went out for breakfast, took the dogs to Petsmart, did some yard work, and went to Annapolis for the evening. On Sunday we went to church and hung out together at home. Joe grilled yummy hamburgers for dinner...nothing like home grilled burgers. Monday we bought tomato, bell pepper, and assorted herbs at Lowe's. Later we went to our friends the Topp's for dinner and lots of yummy food...minus the way too salty potato salad I made. Annika was so excited to see her friend Abbi she refused to eat, so on our way home we had to go 15 minutes out of our way to find a McDonald's to get her a yogurt parfait. All in all, we had a great weekend spending time together as a family, and we are looking forward to our week vacation with Joe's family soon to come.

Annika and Joe...Gone Fishing.
Getting into the spirit of Memorial day...B-B-Q.
Reading all about fish.
This is a terrible picture, but you can sort of see how cute Annika looked in her Annapolis hoodie with shorts and flip flops. Little beach girl in the making.
On Sunday we enjoyed our breakfast outside.
After church Shakespeare got to play some frisbee.
Enjoying the day after church.
I made Abbi and Annika some worms in dirt for dessert on Monday only to find out Abbi doesn't like pudding. More for me...they were yummy.
Annika and Abbi were at the table just long enough for the prayer and for me to snap this picture. They had a blast together.
At the Topp's for dinner. We were going to have dinner at a park, but we got rained out. What mattered is that we were all together and had a great time. Thanks Topp family for the great dinner. *Side note: I made potato salad and read on the Food Chanel website to boil the potatoes in salt. After I boiled the potatoes and eggs I called my sister-in-law Anna for her recipe. She said not to boil them in salt...oops! Too late! The salad was way too salty. I won't be making that mistake again any time soon. But I did make a yummy cake. Hopefully that made up for my horrible potato salad.
Annika and Abbi having a blast in a box. Don't ask me why we bother buying toys.
My yummy lemon raspberry cake. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend too!
